Who inspires you and why? I love the energy of Leonie Dawson. An amazing Australian Mum of 2 who designs creative year planners and amazing simple, accessible courses – I love her shining year planners and have used them for about 5 years now. I love her creativity, her mission and her language (not for sensitive ears!). Her courses is easy to follow and her just get it done attitude is refreshing when I need to get stuff done “ride the wild donkey”
What was your first job? My first proper job in my career was in marketing and communications. I loved being able to copywrite for brochures and press releases. I think it stood me in good stead for being self employed and I love writing books and blogs!
What’s your top business tip? Follow your passion and do something that lights you up! I can procrastinate so much and blame the kids/ home learning/ lack of time etc.. usually is this is when I’m pushing to do something that isn’t quite aligned with me. But when I’m doing something that fills me with joy, I can go at it full blast – I wrote my first book in about 48 hours in the summer holidays!
What’s your favourite business book or podcast? 2020 My Shining Year Life Goals Workbook by Leonie Dawson
What’s your favourite quote? “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”― Mahatma Gandhi
and just for fun…
Who would at the top of your guest list for dinner and why? Nigella Lawson, I love her cooking style (and her sashay style)and hopefully she’d be able to help me cook the food too!
What’s your favourite film? If its wrong to say “The Polar Express” then I would have to say “Out of Africa”
Tell us about an embarrassing moment (one you can laugh about now). Has to be my HE O’ level exam – I forgot to put the lid on the liquidiser when making lemonade and it went everywhere, pastry didn’t work so my French apple tart became stewed apples, and a legendary amount of washing up too! Plus other things. I remember taking myself off to the loos for a cry and to do some calming breaths. How I passed I don’t know – determination to put something out I think – that’s one of my traits – determination!
Look out for next Monday’s Motivation feature and another local woman in business.
